BCS Preview

LSU and Alabama are playing again. The BCS just could not resist themselves after the first game riveted the nation with a 9-6 pitcher’s duel. Unconfirmed sources report Alabama place kicker Cade Foster thought the field goal post were doing the Samba during the game. Oh, the BCS just never fails to give the nation what it wants. I’m almost positive the BCS is anti-happiness. But boy am I excited to see deflected passes and quarterback throw aways! I’m exaggerating a little bit. Though the game will get pummeled in the ratings department, it should be a great game despite the alarming numbers of tackles for loss.
The game certainly does not lack for exciting players. The game features two Heisman trophy finalists. LSU Kick returner and defensive back Tyrann Mathieu is probably breaking your ankles right now and you don’t even know it. If Alabama can get their star running back Trent Richardson going and control time of possession, he could change the…wait for it…hold on…crimson tide of the game.
Another reason I’ll be watching it is because the Superdome is about to hold one of the best, loudest events you will ever see. I don’t care if Van Halen played for you in you’re garage, New Orleans might just break the sound barrier for this one. While the rest of the country might now care for this game, fans of each school are treating this like the opposing team dropped nukes on their campus. While the game might bore some, it’s guaranteed to be an amazing atmosphere, and quite a scene inside the Dome.
Before I make my prediction about the game, I need to write this letter to the BCS:
            Dear BCS,
I understand we’ve never been on good terms. I’m ashamed to admit, that your recent actions have warranted an even greater separation between us. Honestly, who wants to watch a rematch outside of Alabama and Louisiana? Two great schools competed in your Fiesta Bowl earlier this week, and they each looked capable of taking on your top dog LSU. Now don’t get me wrong, under your current system I think LSU and Alabama are the two best teams based on the regular season. However, they play in the same conference. They’ve only proven they’re the best in their conference. I realize LSU beat Oregon earlier but that was the first game of the season, and Oregon’s offense is predicated on rhythm, something they didn’t have in the first game. A lot changes over the season. Alabama did not play one BCS school out of conference during the season. If only there was a way you could have all the best teams play each other in a bracket until two teams are left to play a final championship game. But it’s ok I forgive you since no other sports have discovered a way to do this…wait…I think the NFL does it that way…oh yeah so does MLB...I forgot so does the NBA, NHL, College basketball, Tennis, MLS, Arena Football, United Football League, and pretty much every single relevant and  irrelevant sports league. Awkward… Seriously who wouldn’t want to watch a four team playoff like this:
1)LSU vs. 4)Stanford plays the winner of 2)Alabama vs. 3)Oklahoma St.
I just wet myself thinking about that. Hold on let me clean up a little bit…oh sorry some pee got on this letter, oh sorry I rubbed a little more, oh dear its all over, sorry BCS! Look, if Alabama and LSU got to the championship in a playoff I wouldn’t care because they earned it. But for now, Monday’s game is not the National Championship, it’s the SEC Championship part II. Sorry for the messy letter.
Sincerely,
Gregory

As for the game, I think LSU has the slight edge. Alabama’s defense has been relatively exposed against the option and LSU quarterback Jordan Jefferson runs it well, and in the first game Jefferson played minimal snaps. With Jefferson permanently at the helm for this one, I think LSU has a little more of an advantage over the Alabama defense than it did in the first matchup. In addition, Bama quarterback A.J. McCarron has not been impessive this season. In his last three games against subpar defenses, McCarron that thrown for less than 200 yards. He’s been an excellent game manager this year, however the sophomore hasn’t played in many games like this. The crowd will be hostile, and against a smothering defense like LSU, McCarron won’t be up to the challenge. However, he still has great southern schoolboy hair. Look for the Tigers to key in on the run and halt this Bama offense. I like LSU 20-13.
